With that in mind, I think this is a great time to look back on the amazing experience that has left me physically beaten up, but internally stronger and more committed to the pursuit of peace. Here are some of my favorite pics of the beautiful people and places whom I have met a long the way:
(Ah! Total tease and I apologize. After waiting for a long time for pictures to upload I`ve found out that nowhere in La Quiaca is the internet fast enough to upload pictures. So, I`ll do this right away when I arrive to Buenos Aires.)
UPDATE:
1. Rotary International rep in the beautiful center of Xela, Guatemala.
2. My room in Santa Lucia Cotzulmalguapa, Guatemala
3. Sunset in Sunzál, El Salvador
4. Sunrise in El Alto Aguacate, El Salvador
5. Entering Nicaragua on a bike cart
6. Marlón and co-worker who helped him ready the sack. El Porvenir, Nicaragua
7. A colorful barrio in the hills of Medellín, Colombia
8. Celebrating an Atlético Nacional goal. Medellín, Colombia
9. ¨Political power comes from the streets, not the ballot boxes.¨ Quito, Ecuador
10. Beautiful view during the bus ride to Guaranda, Ecuador.
11. Peeling potatoes with viejitas in Lima, Peru.
12. Dark and dingy lucha libre. La Paz, Bolivia
note: I lost my photos from 1-3 to 1-15 and my camera broke after La Paz.
Wow, I had no idea you were getting beat up down there. It's time to man up! Enjoy the last leg of your journey.
ReplyDeletewow.
ReplyDeletei just laughed out loud at the thought of you talking to yourself on a park bench for 5 (perhaps 10) minutes.
i am struck, in reading this blog, at how good of a writer you are. i don't think i realized that before.
i laughed out loud again in reading about you metaphorically leaving the shampoo in the bathroom.
keep writing...

Can you add audio to your blog page? If so, would you consider adding Enya as your theme music? On or around the third blog I started hearing the gentle tones of Enya playing in my head and it just sounded right. So I immediatley went to my media player and turned up the volume and ever since it's not the same without it. It'll save me a little time if I can go straight to the page without having to go into my media player and I want to share my discovery with others.

Hey, Matt, what a joy it has been to follow your travels and these pix are wonderful. Since I don't see anything yet in March, can only assume you are busy getting ready for school. Thanks for inviting me along on the trip. I love you -- and success in your studies. Grandma Karen
ReplyDeleteI MISS YOU....plain and simple.
